Working Committee (WC)

Working Committee of the Residents’ Assembly shall assist the Residents’ Assembly and the Governing Board in discharging their duties under the Act. The Residents’ Assembly chooses a Working Committee of not more than 7 members from time to time. The Residents Assembly itself determines the method of selection and the term of office of the Working Committee.

Auroville’s Residents’ Assembly consists of all the residents of Auroville aged eighteen years and above. The Residents’ Assembly may make proposals for the Master Plan and the development so planned for approval by the Governing Board. It also has the power to grant and terminate the right to residence in Auroville. The Act prescribes that a Working Committee of the Residents’ Assembly shall assist the Residents’ Assembly and the Governing Board in discharging their duties under the Act. Ms. Anu Majumudar

Anuradha (Majumdar) Legrand, from Kolkata, she has lived in Auroville for the last 42 years, working at first at the Matrimandir construction site, teaching, and at Pour Tous. She thereafter founded the Auroville Dance Lab, teaching and creating work for the dance company which performed nationally and later authored several books, including Auroville: A City for the Future. She has served in the Auroville Town Development Council and is currently serving, for a second time, in the Working Committee. She was part of Sri Aurobindo’s 150th Birth Anniversary team and a coordinator for the first Auroville Literature Festival.

Mr. Parthasarathy Krishnan

Parthasarathy Krishnan, age 50. Born and brought up in Auroville. A member of the working committee, works in the area of police liaison and labour dispute officer.  Has worked as theatre artist with Auroville theatre group and worked as an Awareness through the body teacher for children. Currently running a in house cafe “Neem tree cafe” exclusively for aurovilians, newcomers , volunteers and visiting AV guests.

Ms. Ingeborg Christine Neuman

Ingeborg Christine Neuman, I was born in Germany, I came first to Auroville in 1981 for a visit and bevor I returned to Germany to work and finish my studies, I applied to become a newcomer. Returned in 1984 and started living and working at Aurogreen Farm where I build a house and still live now. From 1984, I have worked in many Units and Services. In April 2022 I was chosen to join the Working Committee where I am still presently working.

My work at Aurogreen Farm where I live have never stopped. I take great pleasure to grow fruit trees and donate the harvest to the farm. I love horses and riding; sometimes I teach horse riding or lounging and take kids or teenagers or friends out for a horse ride in the Green Belt.

Mr. Selvaraj Damodharan

Selvaraj Damotharan, born in Kuilapalayam, one of the villages within the Auroville area, Selvaraj had darshan & met The Mother few times as a child. He joined Auroville through the Aspiration Kindergarten during 1970. Along with few others he was in instrumental in the reopening of the Last School after it had been closed during the fight between Sri Aurobindo Society and Auroville Community. Has also been involved in starting the Kuilapalayam School Trust in 1994 as founding Managing Trustee. Also founded After School (NESS) in 1992 as founding Managing Trustee. The latter is attended by both Aurovilians and students from neighbouring villages.  Often involved in organising activities for youth groups in Auroville and other parts of the world, such as students exchange, youth gatherings, Auroville community gathering. For several years he helped coordinate SAIIER activities as an executive and has been a member of the Working Committee for about 12 years and at present. Has also served on FAMC, Entry Service, Village Action Trust. Other activities and responsibilities include Building Contractor, Founder of Vanaam (Youth Camp) Accommodation, Founder of Discovery clothing Unit, Initiated international study program in Auroville and outside of Auroville. Executive of Auroville Industrial Institute.
