The Prosperity system was started by The Mother in the Ashram so that all the inmates would receive all their basic needs in kind and provided by the Ashram.   In Auroville we have to set up a variant of it, because our society is much more diverse and also meant to be a whole City.  The Mother did not want money to circulate within Auroville and that’s why we need the services that provide all basic needs without having to pay for them.

Auroville has tried different systems and right not it is a mix of individualistic (we have the maintenances that is a kind of salary in cash with which Aurovilians’ pay’ to other Aurovilians and units) but we have many services provided like education and health).

Our challenge now is to reduce the cash circulation and provide in kind as much as possible.
